Epee Ellong, a native of Douala, Cameroon, is an architect trained at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, France.
He co-founded an architectural firm in Douala with his wife, Diane Chehab, an American-born architect.
The philosophy behind the firm was to try to reincarnate African Tradition into modern architecture. The same philosophy lies behind PADOUK, founded in 1990, which brings traditional African shapes to contemporary designs. The signature pieces are the benches, which were the staples of African households. The styles hold their inspiration from local traditions and animals.
The collection also includes coffee tables, liquor cabinets and decorative masks. All the furniture is made of natural wood, without artificial tints, and with a clear waxed finish. The upholstery is covered with raffia (palm frond fiber) or cork fabric.
Note: Furniture is not currently available for sale.
